EDU2030: Youth in Transition

Project Description

When we speak of “transition”, we run the risk of falling into the temptation of thinking that it involves transporting the current system from one point to another; however, as young people across the world point out and as the pandemic has dramatically brought to light, this is not the case. We believe that young people have the capacity, creativity and passion to build a Europe that does not live at the expense of the rest of the world, extending inequalities and environmental damage. In line with the priority of the European Youth Forum, of which the applicant coordinator of this project is a delegate, we seek to empower young people as agents of their own sustainable future. Since it is necessary to identify the root causes of inequalities to challenge the status quo, young people must develop competences in various sectors relevant to sustainability, developing strategies and methodologies for sectoral green skills, as well as having a say in future-oriented curricula that best meet the needs of individuals and communities. We demand that young people’s voices be adequately included in negotiations and, therefore, we call for a more democratic and equitable process for the localisation of the 2030 Agenda, which includes young people and also addresses inequalities: “strengthening the links between policy, research and practice” becomes, in this perspective, a fundamental vector for addressing a just and equitable transition.

Objectives

Implementation

The project is implemented through a collaborative approach that includes the organisation of transnational meetings to monitor progress and address challenges. Digital tools, such as online courses, are used for the training of young people and key stakeholders. Furthermore, the plan provides for the direct participation of target groups (young people aged 16–25, including vulnerable groups) in all phases of the project, from preparation and design to evaluation, ensuring that the proposed solutions respond to their real needs and foster their civic engagement.

Expected Results

Greater involvement of young people in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth programmes at local and transnational levels.

Creation of new tools and opportunities that encourage youth participation in public life and strengthen their link with decision-makers.

Increased knowledge of the connection between the Green Europe and inclusive societies.

Improvement of the capacities of youth organisations to act as agents of change in a just and equitable transition.
