Project Description
By 2030, 1 in 6 people in the world will be 60 years of age or older. At that time, the proportion of the population aged 60 and over will increase from 1 billion in 2020 to 1.4 billion. By 2050, the global population of people aged 60 and over will double (2.1 billion). The number of people aged 80 and over is expected to triple between 2020 and 2050, reaching 426 million. The rate of the population over 60 is increasing not only in developed countries but also in low- and middle-income countries (WHO). The Decade is based on the WHO Global Strategy and Action Plan and the United Nations Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, and supports the implementation of the Decade’s objectives. Action on ageing of the United Nations and supports the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) aims to reduce health inequalities and improve the lives of older people, their families and communities through collective action (WHO).
