Promoting a Safe Use of Internet Against Cyberbullying
Project Description
Cyberbullying of vulnerable young people is a reality and a growing concern in all Erasmus+ countries. Recent events and the heavy reliance on the Internet caused by the COVID-19 pandemic highlight the need for an urgent response that enables young people and youth workers to better deal with cyberbullying. At this critical moment in time, the International Institute RJ4All brought together a strategic partnership of four Erasmus+ countries to address multiple sectoral and horizontal programming priorities.
The project will exchange its results at national and European level, thereby helping to achieve the objectives of the new EU Youth Strategy and the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy in the youth field.
Objectives
- Promote healthy, responsible and respectful digital habits from an early age to prevent cyberbullying.
- Facilitate clear, reliable and accessible reporting channels for victims, witnesses, parents and educators through centralised tools.
- Coordinate national strategies and provide EU-level tools to collect and compare data on cyberbullying.
- Support the training of teachers and school staff through specialised resources provided by Safer Internet Centres.
Implementation
Implementation is based on the deployment of a comprehensive infrastructure, including the launch of a European-wide accessible application for reporting cyberbullying and obtaining assistance. The project implements awareness-raising campaigns in collaboration with mental health experts, children and families, promoting the review of guidelines for educators on digital literacy. In parallel, regulations such as the Digital Services Act and the Artificial Intelligence Regulation are integrated to address prohibited practices and ensure that AI-generated content is properly labelled, thereby reducing its misuse for cyberbullying purposes.
Expected Results
Reduction in the incidence of cyberbullying through greater awareness and the adoption of safer digital practices from childhood.
Significant improvement in the responsiveness and assistance provided to victims, thanks to the implementation of unified and accessible reporting channels.
Increased preparedness of schools and teachers to manage and prevent online bullying situations through specialised training.
Harmonisation of data on cyberbullying among EU countries, enabling a common understanding and a more effective strategic response to the problem.
