The Introduction Journey to the Game Development for NEETs

The Introduction Journey to the Game Development for NEETs

Project Description

The GAMEON project aims to introduce NEETs (young people not in education, employment or training) to the world of video game development as a pathway for training, integration and digital empowerment. Through a practical and playful pathway, these young people are given the opportunity to acquire technical and creative competencies in the game creation sector, while fostering their motivation, teamwork and active participation in the youth community.

Objectives

Implementation

The project is developed through face-to-face and/or hybrid workshops and courses introducing video game development (use of engines such as Unity or accessible game builders, design of simple mechanics and narratives). Participants are organised into project teams to design and prototype small video games or mini-games, following a flipped classroom methodology and collaborative work guided by trainers and tutors in software development or digital art. Game demonstrations and presentations are carried out by the young people themselves to other groups, educators and employment agents, to reinforce public confidence and positive social perception of their work. Partners share materials, methodologies and experiences in transnational meetings and training activities, and document the process so that it can be replicated by other youth centres and NGOs.

Expected Results

Training package and introductory pedagogical materials for video game development, adapted for NEETs and available as open resources.

Improvement of the digital and creative competency level of participating young people, with increased motivation and willingness towards future training or employment.

Creation of video game or mini-game prototypes developed by NEETs, serving as a portfolio and demonstration object for educational and employment agents.

Strengthening of the network of youth centres and organisations working with NEETs and the creation of a community of practice on the use of games and video game development in youth education and training.
