Project Description
According to the OECD volume ‘Making integration work’ on young immigrants, there are a number of challenges that prevent them from taking advantage of the educational system in their host society. Language learning is essential for young immigrants to live in the host country and thrive in their new society. One way to safeguard this is to ensure that children actively participate in these processes in a sustainable and needs-adapted manner.
Objectives
- Establish an evidence base on the training needs of teachers, families, professionals, and migrant children in various European countries.
- Offer interdisciplinary, accessible, and high-quality training to educators, youth workers, and migrant children, using hybrid methodologies and innovative approaches.
- Develop child-friendly educational materials and manuals on language learning and public speaking, with the active participation of the children themselves.
- Promote awareness and participation of migrant children through public speaking activities, a digital platform, and a European public event.
Implementation
Critical thinking and public speaking activities will be designed, along with specific training for professionals such as teachers, educators, and social workers, using non-formal methodologies and experiential learning. We will also work with vulnerable migrant children to reinforce values such as democratic citizenship, human rights, equality, social justice, and respect for the environment. All of this will be developed using the Lundy model, ensuring safe and inclusive spaces where children can express their opinions and have them taken into account.
Expected Results
125 educators, 60 youth workers, and 300 children trained in language learning, rights, and socio-emotional skills.
Child-friendly manuals and educational resources created with methodologies such as Rhetoric Speech Games and the Healing Classrooms approach.
An awareness campaign and a public speaking competition for children to express their rights and messages to key stakeholders.
An interactive digital platform and a final European event to disseminate results, share best practices, and ensure the project's transferability.
