Digitalisation of multilingual programs in the EHEA
Project Description
The development of linguistic competence is one of the eight key competences promoted by the EC. Despite the commitment of Member States to the promotion of foreign languages through the enactment of initiatives to promote bilingualism, i.e. through YUFE and by improving the effectiveness of language teaching in educational environments (Council on Developing Language and Multilingual Skills, 2017), further action in this area is imperative to promote greater multilingualism and broaden understanding, acceptance and cultural values. For example, Europe has not yet implemented a flagship language programme similar to that of the US. However, multilingualism is rooted in the foundations and cultural diversity of Europe. Consequently, it must be promoted at all levels.
Objectives
- Support coordinators and directors of multilingual programmes in the design, development, implementation, management and evaluation of multilingual programmes. As a result, IO1 (MULTIPROAPP database) will be designed.
- Guide and support teachers and students participating in multilingual programmes to enhance their intercultural and linguistic competences. As a result, IO2 (augmented reality teaching material) will be designed.
- Promote the learning of home language and culture among incoming exchange students participating in multilingual programmes by providing decision-makers with internationalisation strategies and actions: as a result, IO3 (policy recommendations brochure) will be designed.
- Disseminate the above results to reach multiple target groups within the educational community and through various strategies and channels.
Implementation
The project is deployed through a methodology based on gap analysis and strategic data governance planning. Phases of diagnosis of the digitalisation needs of multilingual programmes are carried out, followed by the design of adapted technological solutions, piloting with stakeholders and, finally, the integration of results into institutional policies to ensure long-term sustainability.
Expected Results
Creation of an adapted digital platform or environment that facilitates the management and monitoring of multilingual programmes.
Improvement of the effectiveness and quality in the delivery of multilingual content through the use of digital tools.
Development of a set of performance indicators that allow measuring the impact of digitalisation on academic performance.
Strengthening of transnational collaboration among participating higher education institutions.
