Social inclusion for seniors by sport
Social inclusion for seniors by sport
Project Description
The project assumes cooperation in the adult sector. As part of the project, the team of sports trainers, based on the objectives outlined below, will jointly develop a programme of sports and recreational activities. The new programme will be tested during activities for older people.
Organisations from partner countries will implement good practices in the field of adult work during the project’s international meetings. In addition, partner organisations will create a digital network that will serve for the current exchange of experiences and good practices.
Objectives
- Promote physical activity and sport among people over 55 years old to foster active and healthy ageing.
- Improve the physical and cognitive health of older people (strength, endurance, coordination, mobility and responsiveness) through adapted sports programmes.
- Use sport and recreational activities as a tool for social inclusion, reducing isolation and favouring participation in the community.
- Develop and validate a physical-recreational activities programme for older people that can be replicated by trainers and socio-sports organisations.
Implementation
The project is developed through cooperation between sports clubs, older people’s organisations and NGOs from Turkey, Spain and Poland. Teams of trainers and technicians jointly design a programme of physical and sports activities adapted to older adults, which is tested and adjusted in groups of seniors from the three countries. Workshops and sports practice days are organised with older people (balance, mobility, stretching, low-impact exercises), as well as transnational meetings to share experiences and good practices among partners. A digital network is also created between organisations, to facilitate the continuous exchange of materials, methodologies and results between clubs and centres working with older people.
Expected Results
A structured and validated sports programme for older people, with training sessions and guides for trainers and monitors of older adults.
Improvement of participants' physical capacity and emotional well-being, as well as their social integration and community participation.
Publication and dissemination of a manual or reference document presenting the programme and serving as inspiration for other organisations working with seniors.
Strengthening of the network of European partners in the field of sport and ageing, with shared tools and methodologies for the organisation of physical and recreational activities for older people.
