Minecraft for AI and Coding Introduction in Primary Schools
Project Description
AI-Cosmic aims to familiarise primary school children with the five big ideas of artificial intelligence (AI) through gamified learning activities and introduce them to basic coding skills aligned with their level of knowledge and education, promote coding and AI in schools, improve teachers’ digital skills, enrich the variety of education in the STEM field, making it more attractive to young students, and fill the gap in the EU labour market by encouraging a career in programming. Objectives
- Train primary education teachers in the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and programming.
- Enhance teachers' capacity to deliver engaging lessons using digital tools and technologies.
- Incorporate gamification and experiential learning (particularly through Minecraft) into the teaching of subjects such as mathematics and ICT.
- Create an accreditation and certification system for programming competences in primary education.
- Promote communication and collaboration among professionals and stakeholders in the field of AI and coding.
Implementation
The implementation of the AI-COSMIC project is structured through a comprehensive pedagogical approach that begins with the development of a specialised curriculum, designed to gradually introduce the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and programming from the primary education stage. This curricular framework enables teachers to have a clear guide adapted to their students’ needs for teaching complex technical competences.
Expected Results
The AI-Cosmicon Guide, which will serve as a manual to help teachers introduce the topic of coding to their students.
AI-Cosmicon, a Minecraft game that will provide a practical approach and introduce students to complex coding concepts in a simplified and fun way.
A virtual community for teachers and students that promotes the sustainability of project results, collaboration and constructive debate in the field of AI, coding, ICT and STEM.
