AI-powered Next Generation of VET

Project Description

The scientific community is in no doubt: Artificial Intelligence will be the defining development of the 21st century. Experts estimate that, due to the rise of AI, in just two decades certain aspects of everyday human life will be unrecognisable. The influence of AI is on the verge of challenging the organising principles of our economic and social order. It can generate unprecedented wealth, revolutionise medicine and education, but it can also pose existential threats to life as we know it. This is why the EC2020 report is so worrying, as it suggests that the EU is lagging behind the US and Asia in the adoption and development of AI. Among the many reasons for this, the lack of a skilled workforce is undoubtedly one of the most significant.

Objectives

Implementation

We started from scratch: we identified the sectors with the greatest potential for AI deployment across our 17 regions and, for those sectors, working closely with businesses and their cluster organisations, we developed 14 MOOCs and training materials that can be easily integrated into vocational training programmes (both initial and continuing vocational training).

Expected Results

A clear framework of AI competencies and skills relevant to the VET sector will have been defined, tailored to the consortium’s regional needs.

Confidence in trustworthy AI will grow among young people and adults, thanks to training activities focusing on its ethical, social, legal and organisational aspects.

MOOCs on AI will be developed and launched for VET learners, promoting more flexible, accessible and collaborative learning.

Training materials will be developed for vocational training teachers to enable them to teach AI-related content and adapt their teaching practices to technological changes.

Problem-solving skills will be strengthened and partnerships between VET, the labour market and the authorities will be consolidated, thereby improving employability and the relevance of vocational training.
