Gender Equality in the Green Energy Transition
Project Description
GatE’s vision is to significantly enhance women’s participation and leadership in the energy sector during its transition towards sustainability. By adapting VET curricula at EQF levels 3/4 to be more inclusive and establishing robust mentoring opportunities, GatE aims to create a supportive ecosystem where women can thrive in green technology fields. The project seeks to dismantle systemic barriers hindering women’s entry and advancement in this sector, also focusing on marginalized women’s groups. This will be achieved through strategic policy frameworks, specific educational programs, and comprehensive support networks designed to empower women and promote their active involvement in the green energy transition across Europe.
Objectives
- Design a Blueprint for Gender Equality in the Green Energy Transition, including a strategic framework and action plan to attract, develop, and retain women in the sector, fostering inclusion and empowerment.
- Establish mentoring programs led by experienced professionals from the green energy sector, targeting final-year VET students and women entering the sector, facilitating their professional integration.
- Train career counselors, educators, and trainers in various educational settings to enhance their knowledge of opportunities in green technologies and boost female participation in these areas.
Implementation
The GatE consortium, comprising 11 partners from 4 countries, will employ a modified quadruple helix innovation model focusing on industry, government, civil society, and self-empowerment to design and implement a set of interconnected actions for awareness, policy, professional support, and training (self-paced open courses, virtual mentoring, mobility, and train-the-trainer workshops).
Expected Results
Development of strategic and governance frameworks, including a Gender Equality Blueprint, a joint monitoring and impact framework, and a collaboration plan with local authorities.
Implementation of awareness and engagement actions, such as 3 recruitment campaigns, an ambassador program, an advocacy campaign, and 3 community-building events.
Launch of support and capacity-building programs: mentoring (100 participants, 15% from vulnerable groups), training for at least 40 counselors, upskilling for 100 women, reskilling for 20 professionals, mobility for 15 trainers, and a practical learning initiative.
Development of educational and technological resources, including the GatE training program with 12 Open Educational Resources (OERs), an AI-based career guidance tool, and an educational and cooperation platform.
Creation of sustainability and impact tools, such as a gender equality observatory in green energy, an advocacy toolkit, a scalability toolkit, an employment and networking database, and a community of practice.
