Encouraging and Fostering Inclusive Values among youth by Increasing awareness and enhancing KnOwledge and Skills requirements in a digital era
Project Description
This project focuses on combating the exclusion of disadvantaged young people belonging to migrant communities and ethnic minorities, who face critical barriers to media literacy in the digital environment. The initiative seeks to empower this group, with special attention to the visibility of migrant women, allowing them to take control of their own narrative in the media. The core of the project consists of scaling the successful local experience “Young Journalists”, where participants autonomously manage and direct their own newspaper, titled “Migratory Birds”. Through article writing and editorial management, young people have the technical support of sector professionals to professionalise their voices. In this way, active and responsible digital citizenship is fostered, ensuring that their perspective is represented in society. The final result is real integration based on autonomy, critical thinking and the creation of support networks among young people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Objectives
- Foster inclusive values and coexistence among young people aged 18–24, especially in contexts of cultural diversity, migration and minorities.
- Increase awareness and knowledge of issues related to inclusion, diversity and active citizenship in the digital age, addressing challenges such as hate speech, stereotypes and disinformation.
- Develop journalistic and media competencies (writing, editing, use of social media, digital narrative) so that young people can create their own content and participate critically in the media space.
- Strengthen employability and soft skills (communication, teamwork, conflict resolution) through the creation and management of electronic newspapers and youth media.
Implementation
The project is implemented through the creation of teams of young journalists and youth digital media in each partner country, which publish electronic newspapers and content on social media. Workshops and training courses in journalism, digital tools management, media literacy, information ethics and social media content management are organised, aimed at young people from diverse groups (including migrants and ethnic minorities). Participants work on investigative-reporting projects on issues of inclusion, diversity and youth participation, which they then publish in their newspapers and online platforms, with the support of trainers and mentors. Transnational meetings and virtual exchange activities are held so that young people can share experiences, content and methodologies, and consolidate a European community of young journalists and inclusion activists.
Expected Results
Creation of sustainable electronic newspapers and youth digital media, managed by teams of young people who continue to publish beyond the duration of the project.
Improvement of participants' media and digital competency levels, as well as their ability to communicate, debate and participate in the digital public sphere.
Increased awareness and sensitivity regarding diversity, inclusion and human rights among participating young people and their digital audience.
EFIVOS methodological manual and pedagogical materials (training guides, templates and content examples) available as open resources for other youth centres and organisations.
